How we resize your ring
Different metals and settings require different techniques. We choose the safest, most sympathetic approach.
Assessment & estimate
We measure your current size, confirm the target size, examine claws, settings and metal condition, then provide options and a clear quote.
Resize up
The band is opened precisely and a matching alloy insert is added, then laser/solder joined, re-profiled and finished to be seamless.
Resize down
A small section is removed, the ends are re-joined, trued on a mandrel and re-profiled.
Finishing & checks
Polish or satin refinish; rhodium for white gold; ultrasonic/steam clean and full setting security check under magnification.
Metals & settings we work with
- Gold (yellow/rose/white) 9–22ct: excellent, seamless results; rhodium re-plating available for white gold.
- Platinum: requires higher temps and care—our specialty; profile is matched and finish restored.
- Silver & Palladium: clean joins and full refinish included.
We protect gemstones with heat sinks/laser where needed. Channel/eternity settings and bezel-set soft stones (opal, emerald, turquoise, etc.) may require stone removal before sizing.
Note: Some titanium/tungsten/steel rings cannot be resized; we’ll advise alternatives (e.g., remake).
When should you resize?
If your ring spins, squeezes, or can be shaken off—get it sized to prevent wear and stone loss.
New ring/engagement
Make it comfortable from day one with a precise professional fit.
Seasonal change
Fingers fluctuate—adjust to your stable size after a few weeks.
Life changes
Pregnancy/weight change may call for temporary or permanent adjustments.
Security & wear
Oversize rings can oval and loosen stones over time.
Ring Resizing FAQs
Will resizing weaken my ring?
Any cut introduces a join, but with correct technique, matching alloys and proper re-profiling, strength is maintained. We also check and reinforce thin areas as needed.
How far can you resize?
Typically up to two sizes either way without design changes. Larger shifts may need partial shank replacement or a remake—we’ll advise the safest option.
How long does it take?
Standard gold/silver: often same day or 24–48 hours. Platinum/complex settings: 2–5 working days.
Will the join be visible?
No. We make an invisible join and match the finish. On white gold, rhodium plating ensures uniform colour.
